Learning Outcomes and Application This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to set up, operate, monitor and maintain glass mirroring equipment.This unit applies to glass processing workers mirroring glass in accordance with pre-determined work orders.No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Elements of Competency Performance Criteria              
Element: Prepare for work
  • Read work instructions and identify job and quality requirements
  • Identify and follow work health and safety requirements, using all required personal protective equipment
  • Identify quality procedures for each stage of the process
  • Plan work sequence in a logical order to suit the job and workplace procedures
  • Establish and maintain communication with others involved with the work to ensure efficient work flow coordination, personnel cooperation and safety
       
Element: Prepare glass for mirroring
  • Remove existing mirror by acid washing, cleaning and polishing in accordance with work instructions
  • Wash glass to be mirrored with detergent in accordance with workplace procedures
  • Rinse glass to be mirrored with demineralised water in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Conduct glass mirroring operations
  • Apply tinning solution in accordance with workplace procedures
  • Rinse glass with demineralised water in accordance with workplace procedures
  • Apply mirror solution to glass in accordance with workplace procedures
  • Wash and blow dry glass in accordance with workplace procedures
  • Apply backing paint in accordance with workplace procedures
       
Element: Complete work
  • Inspect product for quality of work and discard or return items which do not meet quality requirements for reprocessing in accordance with workplace procedures
  • Place completed work in holding area in accordance with workplace procedures
  • Clean work area and safely dispose of rubbish in accordance with workplace procedures
  • Inspect, maintain and tag equipment in accordance with workplace procedures
  • Remove and store tools, equipment and unused materials in accordance with workplace procedures
  • Accurately complete required workplace documentation
  • Read work instructions and identify job and quality requirements
  • Identify and follow work health and safety requirements, using all required personal protective equipment

Assessment Tasks
